Els PFC (substàncies químiques per{- i poli-fluorades) són totes substàncies químiques totalment-fabricades per l'home que no es troben de manera natural. S'utilitzen habitualment en recobriments DWR (repel·lent a l'aigua durador) i membranes impermeables. Aquests fluoroquímics s'utilitzen des de fa temps per donar a la roba propietats resistents a l'aigua i a les taques.
